Hello, my name is Seth Johnson, and I am from Nashville Tennessee. I grew up catching snakes and walking creeks looking for turtles, frogs and anything else I could find. I enjoy fishing, kayaking, camping or just sitting by the creek, and I can always find an excuse to spend the weekend in the woods. I lived all over Tennessee growing up, but my time in Knoxville molded me into who I am. Spending my time exploring and hiking the Smoky Mountains formed a deep passion for the outdoors at a young age. Since the age of 9 I had wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail. In 2023 I finally got the opportunity to do so and since then I have developed an even deeper appreciation for the outdoors and wanting to protect the natural beauties of this country. After my first thru-hike I became addicted to backpacking and have completed other trails including the Continental Divide Trail, Superior Trail, Long Trail, and the Foothills Trail twice. After completing the Appalachian Trail I wanted to give back to the trail community and worked for the Green Mountain Club where I learned all about trail construction and maintenance.

I decided to become a Mt. Adams Institute intern because I knew this was a great opportunity to further my education in conservation. I’ve always wanted a career in the US Forest Service and I believe this internship is a great way to get my foot in the door. I learn best hands on and talking to people who have actually done what I want to achieve. I’m very excited to work alongside experts in trail maintenance and be able to share my passion for the outdoors with others. I hope to meet many like minded individuals and expand my knowledge on conservation and land stewardship. Seasonal work is the best way for me to continue my passion for thru-hiking and give back to the communities that use these trails and recreational areas. This internship is a perfect opportunity for me to be able to learn more valuable skills that I can use to further my career in land stewardship.
