Ever feel like you’ve scored the golden ticket? That’s exactly how JonLuke Mowell felt when he began his journey as a Land Stewards Intern with Mt. Adams Institute!
From the moment he got started, JonLuke knew he was “born for this work”—just like Charlie stepping into the Chocolate Factory.

But instead of candy rivers and chocolate bars, JonLuke’s adventure is all about maintaining over 200 miles of trails, through tree and drainage clearing in the U.S. Forest Service - Umatilla National Forest, battling wildfires, and waking up each day to the call of the great outdoors. 🌲🔥 With every challenge, he’s embraced the chance to learn, grow, and connect with nature.

“We got so much done this year, even with the absolutely insane fire season we had that was unlike anything I have ever seen in my three seasons here on the Umatilla…JonLuke has a great work ethic and a great attitude. He showed up ready to work...I’m super proud of his accomplishments this season and I would love to have him back next season if we are able to.” said Will Messick, Forestry Technician OHV Crew Lead. (We’re proud to share that Will is a former MAI alumni!)

Reflecting on his time with MAI and with the U.S. Forest Service, JonLuke says, “This program was truly the foot in the door I needed... I’m excited for my future and ready to see where this experience can take me next.”
