VetsWork: A Life-changing Program

by | VetsWork

Hello everyone out there in Blog land!

My name is Jeff and I am a VetsWork intern working with the fleet management department in (wait for it), Anchorage, Alaska!! I am going on my 3rd month with the program here and love it. The people I work with are awesome and very helpful. It’s just a great environment to be a part of. Throughout my life, I have had the privilege to visit and experience many places in this world, and as far as Alaska is concerned, it’s one of the best! I am planning on making this my home someday. If you like the outdoors, this is a must see on anyone’s list. So far I have been to Seward, Girdwood, Whittier, Prince Williams Sound and a boat ride into the magnificent Blackstone Bay, which is the home of seven beautiful glaciers. In the next few months I have trips planned for Cordova, Homer, Denali, and the interior of Alaska. Working here so far has opened my eyes to see all the different rolls that the Forest Service has. Any and everyone involved with the Forest Service plays an important role, whether it be a ranger, boat captain, fire crew, trail crew, office work, survey crew, and even the janitorial work, it all plays an important part for the here and now and the future to come. I’m glad I can be a part of it! I will be including some pictures in the near future. If you or any of your friends are veterans, you really need to look into this program, it’s a life changer!

Thanks for your time.
