Hello, I’m Kayden. I am currently studying to earn my BS in Environmental Science and will graduate in August 2022. My passion for the environment stemmed from growing up in Flint, Michigan, as most of my childhood was spent outdoors. Activities like Bass fishing, hiking, swimming, and roaming through the wilderness, contributed to building my confidence, patience, and appreciation for the world around me.
Now living in Portland, after serving in the Navy as an Interior Communications Electrician, I enjoy all of these same childhood activities, with an even greater appreciation and respect for the environment. Becoming an Mt. Adams Institute Americorps intern was one of the easiest decisions I have made thus far. MAI’s devotion to connecting historically underrepresented individuals to nature, emphasis on environmental stewardship, and promotion of personal health and well-being, perfectly align with my values and goals.
I am eager to join the team at the Lower Columbia River Estuary Partnership and discover what it takes to restore and care for the waters and ecosystems of the lower Columbia River. Working alongside those with the same passion for environmental preservation, diversity, and inclusion will aid in my educational and personal growth, thus enhancing my ability to serve my community and the environment.
