VetsWork

VetsWork is an eleven month career development internship program for military veterans in the natural resources management, public lands, and environment sector.

Sense of Place

Sense of Place features speakers with unique knowledge of the Columbia River Gorge. These stories deepen our understanding and connection to nature and each other.

Land Stewards

Land Stewards is a career development program for young adults, ages 21-30, interested in learning more about public lands and natural resources management.

Summer Camp

Our Summer Camp is a place-based outdoor science education opportunity for youth curious about exploring and understanding the natural world.

Lodging

Join us at Base Camp, our facility in Trout Lake, Washington, adjacent to the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

Sense of Place Presents: “The Wolf Next Door – A Community Perspective on the Return of Wolves”

Sense of Place continues its 15th anniversary season with Geology Alive: Understanding Geologic Hazards in the Gorge, a presentation with geologist Dr. Richard “Dick” Iverson, Scientist Emeritus at the U.S. Geological Survey’s Cascades Volcano Observatory. This event will take place on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River, Oregon.

Building Bridges: Taryn’s Path from Military Service to Environmental Restoration

Meet Taryn Oseen, a VetsWork intern with NOAA’s Restoration Center who embodies the mission of creating connections—between people, nature, and professional growth. As a Navy veteran pursuing a career in environmental science, Taryn joined the program to gain real-world experience and close the gap between academic training and career readiness.

VetsWork is a career development program for military veterans interested in pursuing a career in fields like natural resources, conservation, and public lands management. 

We partner with agencies like the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the National Park Service to host positions across the country from Alaska to Pennsylvania.
