Hello! My name is Taryn Oseen. I am originally from a small farm in Shalersville, Ohio. Growing up, my family and I were always outdoors, and I naturally became very passionate about environmental protection. When I graduated from high school, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Sonar Technician and spent the next 6 years traveling to dozens of cool places and gaining technical, tactical, and leadership experiences both on board a warship and on the shore. My last duty station was on Whidbey Island, where I went hiking in beautiful Deception Pass almost every weekend! Following my enlistment, I became a full-time student and finally completed my degree in Environmental Geoscience.

Since graduating, I have been working as a lab technician and gas chromatography analyst for contaminated water and soil samples at an environmental testing laboratory. I found the Mt. Adams Institute AmeriCorps VetsWork Internship Program while I was looking for ways to become more directly engaged in environmental conservation and restoration projects. The opportunity to work alongside NOAA and the Mt Adams Institute is unparalleled, and I’m thrilled to have been selected as an intern! I hope to enhance my professional network and learn as much as I can to build a career in environmental protection and resource management.
