Board Member

Steve retired in 2020 from the City of The Dalles, Oregon as community development director. This position concluded his 40-year career as an urban planner for local governments in Oregon, California and New Mexico. During his career he collaborated with various stakeholders to preserve open space and agricultural lands, to plan for and develop parks, and to integrate the built environment with the natural environment.

Since locating to White Salmon, WA in 2016, Steve and his wife Kathleen have immersed themselves in the outdoor lifestyle that the Columbia River Gorge is known for. In their spare time they enjoy traveling, off-grid RV life, hiking, and scuba diving
adventures.

Both Steve and Kathleen are involved with local community groups and organizations. Steve serves as a commissioner with the White Salmon Valley Pool Metropolitan Park District, a position he has held since 2020. Kathleen is a board member and active member of Klickitat County Search & Rescue.

Steve is passionate in his love for the outdoors and in providing others with opportunities to share this connection. The programs and experiences offered by MAI provide such opportunities to individuals seeking enrichment and possible future career opportunities. He hopes that by supporting MAI and serving as a board member, his efforts will encourage others to experience the natural environment and become stewards of the outdoors for future generations.
