Hard Work is Fun with a Good Attitude and a Few Friends

by | Field Notes

My reflections of the last twelve weeks of the Mount Adams Institute (MAI) VetsWork Green Corps Program are that hard work can be fun with a good attitude and a few friends to share it with. Before arriving my expectations were that I would complete certifications for forestry, and gain experience in wildfire. During my time here in the MAI VetsWork Green Corps program we’ve completed and received certificates for I-180 introduction to Incident Commander System, L-180 Human Factors in the Wildland fire service, S-130 Firefighter training, S-190 introduction to Wildland fire behavior, S-211 Portable Pumps and water use, S-212 Wildland fife chainsaws and first aid/ CPR thus providing us with a step in the door for forest service certifications. My favorite memory from my time in the internship program would be our volunteer work at Divide Camp. Driving to the wilderness area where the camp is located with members of the veteran crew and setting up the camp felt rewarding to help other veterans come out and enjoy the outdoors.
