The VetsWork program of the Mt. Adams Institute gave me access to several different experiences that I would not have had otherwise. I am very thankful for these opportunities and I can’t express how much they have impacted my future career choices. One of the experiences that had the biggest impact was the fire detail that I participated in this summer in Santa Barbara, California. This trip alone showed me that I want to further my career in either wildland firefighting or structure firefighting. During my deployment in Afghanistan, the most satisfying feeling was knowing that I am doing something to help others. Working in fire brought back that same sense of satisfaction that I had been missing since my deployment in 2011. Below I have several pictures of that detail.
