My name is Garret Engelke. I grew up in Fargo, ND. I love to camp, hike, and trail ride. I spent eight years in the North Dakota Army National Guard in the branch of Air Defense Artillery, with two years mobilized in Washington, D.C. I received two bachelors at North Dakota State in Natural Resource Management and Civil Engineering, with which I hope to start a career in fish passage and stream restoration.
I decided to become an MAI Intern to introduce myself to working in conservation efforts and to get my foot in the door with federal agencies like NOAA, Fish and Wildlife, and the Forest Service. I’ll be working with NOAA as a Salmon Recovery Specialist, and what excites me the most is the exposure to the variety of work surrounding habitat rehabilitation. My contacts at NOAA have assured me that they will help me find a lane that most closely aligns with my interests.
