2023 VetsWork Fire: James Tucker

by | Field Notes, VetsWork Fire, VWF 2023

I am James Tucker. I’m 32 years old, and I haven’t lived anywhere longer than six years. I’ve lived in a lot of places, and Denver and southern Germany are my favorites. I have a family history of military service, and I was in the Navy for two years as a Cryptologic Technician after one year of college.

I enjoy writing, reading, and being outside. Hiking and sitting with a book or notebook after building a fire are two of my favorite things to do outside.

I applied for this position because I completed EMT school and passed the national registry exam. I was contemplating fire school and my options in that avenue when I found the listing for this internship. I accepted the offer after applying because I love being outside, especially in wooded areas. As well, I’m a sort of environmentalist, and this is an excellent opportunity for me to help both people and the planet.

I hope to learn how to be more self-reliant in nature and continue my education in emergency medicine to be of better service to the land and people that I live with.
