I grew up in West Florida and spent a lot of time in the water. When I wasn’t in the water, I was camping or hiking. I also enjoy hunting and fishing. I spent six years in the Army as a system operator for automated field artillery systems, doing a lot of math and geometry. I chose the military because I wasn’t the best at other subjects besides math, so after I graduated high school, I got on a bus for basic training. I am an only child and have a small family of Floridians.
The VetsWork AmeriCorps Internship was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. Any chance I could get to work within the national forest to gain experience, even though I’d didn’t have any experience myself was a no-brainer for me. I’m very excited to work with MAI and the National Forest Service to help better our forest. I’m also excited about the experience I’m going to gain and hope it leads to a long career with nature and the outdoors.
