I am Arturo Moreno, and I grew up in Northern New Jersey. In my early 20’s I moved out west where I found the ‘jumping off’ point of my life. I love the ocean and enjoy surfing when I get the time to do it. I’ve been fortunate to paddle out to the waves on three continents. I hope to experience more. I also love the mountains, though I haven’t spent as much time in them; they have served me as a place of tranquil refuge. In 2002, I joined the Marine Corps where I got to see parts of the world, humanity and myself that I never thought that I would see. An architect by training, I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in a new field called ‘Geodesign’. I have a 12-year old son who is the light of my life.
I decided to become a Mt. Adams Institute AmeriCorps Intern because they graciously offered to let me participate. I pursued the internship because I perceived a great opportunity to learn and grow through the program. Every time that I talk to someone from the Mt. Adams Institute’s team and their partner agencies, I become more and more enthused about the work that we’ll be doing and the beautiful place that we have to do it in. I am also excited about the possibility of learning new skills, tools and ways to serve people and places. Most of all, I am keen to offer what I know to others.
